Upbeat Hong Kong Furry Ideas “Connect” Global Buyers at Fur Gala 2010
Over 2,000 international buyers were treated to the latest collections of 20 leading Hong Kong fur manufacturers at the Fur Gala 2010 on 25th of February while savoring a sumptuous Chinese banquet at the Grand Hall of the Hong Kong Convention & Exhibition Center (HKCEC).
Reputed as the most prestigious event for the global fur trade, the Hong Kong International Fur & Fashion Fair (February 25-28) converges modish apparel, fancy material as well as trendy accessories all under one roof at the HKCEC once a year; and the annual Gala evening is the major highlight which offers directional clues for upbeat furry thoughts.
Every year the venue of the Fur Gala is created exclusively to complement the best of Hong Kong’s fur designs, and the 2010 event had special significance as the organizer of the Fur Fair – the Hong Kong Fur Federation celebrated its 30th anniversary. This year, a time tunnel photo montage featuring memorable picture images of the last three decades leaded the way to the Grand Hall where a first-time centralized catwalk was staged.
Under the presentation theme “Connect”, ingenious collections from 20 Hong Kong furriers were presented under four scene: ‘A night in Hong Kong – City of Lights’; ‘A night at the Opera’; ‘Club Chateau’; and “Enchanted Forest”. Illustrating innovative manufacturing techniques and distinctive craftsmanship, these collections flaunted inspirations drawn from far and wide – from the famous oil painting Mona Lisa, to signature Russian architecture, the 80s’ rockers, and classic movie ‘Breakfast at Tiffany’s’. Every participant also flaunted one of their series at the finale ‘Winter Wonderland’ where designs in white and light hues all joined forces and created an impressive ambience.
Indeed, fur has become a modish icon which adds a whimsical touch to today’s fashion, and its allure is well-endorsed by international designers and brand names which incorporate fur in their creations. At the Gala show, Hong Kong designers Walter Ma and Benny Yeung displayed their creative fur flair, by presenting their collections under the themes ‘Midnight Rider’ and ‘Winter Garden’, respectively.
